The Marx Memorial Library & Workers’ School (MML) has launched an ambitious 10-year project to digitise and preserve the largest Spanish Civil War archive in Britain. In partnership with AM Digital, over 100,000 pages of historical documents will be made available online, ensuring global access to this invaluable resource on the International Brigades.

During the initial 10 years, universities and institutions will be able to access the collection through AM Digital, while IBMT and MML members will enjoy free access. After this period, full ownership returns to the library. A dedicated editorial board, including IBMT Historical Consultant Richard Baxell, will oversee the project.

This initiative is a long-awaited milestone for historians and researchers, offering unprecedented access to firsthand accounts of the Spanish Civil War. More details on the digitisation timeline will be announced in spring 2025.
